Contaminated and genetically modified meat has become a growing problem in the U.S., and with frequent recalls and sanitation issues in the meatpacking industry, eating safe livestock can become a challenge.
Gibsons, located at 2105 Spring Rd., Oak Brook, gives its customers an educational presentation upon seating on the quality of the steaks they serve. First Dave, the man explaining the cuts of steak and its conditions, told us that Gibsons serves the top 2% of steak in the nation. Everything they serve is prime grass-fed cattle from Australia, which benefits the tenderness and flavor of the meat. Gibson also prioritizes ensuring their steaks are not ridden with salmonellosis and E. Coli poisoning by informing its customers that they cook the meat in a 1,800-degree burner.
First, I ordered the cappuccino, my preferred drink at “higher-end” restaurants. The cappuccino ($6) was initially very bitter, requiring me to mix in some sugar. The foam, which had a vanilla-like taste, mixed with the cinnamon, was a splendid combination.
My first item of food was the soup of the day ($7) which was a light homemade chicken noodle soup. I enjoyed this soup thoroughly because of its slightly salty broth but overall flavorful tang.
For my entree, I had the Gold Coast Sliders ($20.25). If you want to experience flavorful “mini burgers,” then you need to try this flavorful delicacy, which consists of three two-ounce mini patties. With soft pillow-like bread and a juicy red medium rare steak, this meal makes for a carnival of different flavors leaving me with endless satisfaction for my choice.
I also tried the medium rare ribeye ($67) which was savory and moist with a sea salt aftertaste. My family ordered two separate versions of this dish– my father got the horseradish sauce, which enhanced the flavor of the steak, adding a herb-like taste. My boyfriend ordered his ribeye plain.
My uncle ordered the 22-ounce W. R’s Chicago Cut ($87) which was crusted with black pepper. I attempted to steer away from spicy foods, however, I indulged myself, and to my greatest pleasure, the pepper coincided nicely with the charred taste of the slightly crispy meat. The tender steak melted in my mouth, making me no longer question why this item was so expensive.
For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate mousse pie ($24.25) which was a 12-inch miracle of a dish with such an extravagant taste, everyone at my table enjoyed it. The whipped mousse reinvigorated the body after a meat-filled meal, allowing me to leave the restaurant feeling refreshed.
I enjoyed Gibsons in Oak Brook supremely. It had a comforting atmosphere with warm lighting and good seating. The restaurant also deserves applause for its astounding customer service, making sure to check in on my family and ensure we had no allergies and were enjoying our time at the restaurant. If you are interested in trying this legendary steakhouse, it is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
