For the past four years, Kamala Harris has been known as our country’s vice president to President Joe Biden. Since Biden, the incumbent, decided to drop out of the presidential race on July 21, Harris took his spot as Donald Trump’s opponent. If Harris wins the electoral vote on election day, she will make history by becoming our nation’s first female president.

She wants to create an opportunity economy where all kinds of people have the chance to prosper financially no matter where they live, whether that be a rural area or a big city. In addition, she hopes to lower costs of everyday needs for all Americans.

According to CBS News, Harris’ tax plan promises to provide bigger tax benefits for families but would offset the costs by raising corporate taxes. About 95% of Americans would see lower taxes, and higher earners would pay more taxes. The top 0.1% of earners would pay an extra $167,000 in taxes per year. She would also eliminate federal taxes on tips, which Trump originally imposed during his presidency beginning in 2016. Additionally, she is planning on providing a financial cushion for startup small businesses. 

In terms of the housing shortage, according to CBS.news, Harris plans to address the issue by building three million new homes priced affordably for middle-class families. She also promises tax-breaks for construction workers who work on homes for first-time home buyers.

Inflation has been an issue at the forefront of people’s minds in recent years. According to CBS.news, Harris plans to combat this by enforcing the first federal law against price gouging. She also plans on lowering prescription drug costs, which has been a focus of Biden throughout his administration.

Abortion has been a major component of the Harris campaign. According to CBS.news, Harris believes that all women should have access to abortion. She pledges to sign a federal law that gives the right to abortion. She strongly believes that women should have control over their own bodies, and in addition to abortion rights, she also plans to spread access to IVF services.

There are many components of the Harris Walz- campaign that are similar to Biden’s agenda as president, but there is also a lot that Harris plans to change to benefit the U.S.
