The Lions passing game spearheaded their offense in LT’s 30-22 win over the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers on Sept. 6 at Red Grange Field. Starting quarterback Dom Pisciotti ‘25 scored his first three passing touchdowns of the season, with his first coming on a five-yard slant caught in the endzone by wide receiver Travis Stamm ‘25 early in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lions offense caught fire. With seven minutes left in the first half, wide receiver Julian Padilla ‘25 caught a hitch route from Pisciotti and took it to the house, scoring a long receiving touchdown to extend LT’s lead to 14 points. The Lions would go on to score one more time in the first half, courtesy of a screen pass to Danny Carroll ‘25 from Pisciotti from the 35-yard line. Carroll broke several tackles along the way and eventually took it the distance.
The LT defense had an excellent first half, shutting down the Tigers’ passing game and putting a lot of pressure on the quarterback, thanks to the front seven.
Linebacker JD Mahoney ‘25 was wreaking havoc on the Wheaton Warrenville South offense, blowing up several plays, making several tackles, and even getting a sack in the second quarter. The lone touchdown by the Tigers in the first half came on a 13-yard passing touchdown with 38 seconds left to make the score 21-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lions scored just three points on a field goal, and the Tigers scored another passing touchdown to make the score 24-14. Stamm had an interception that eventually led to a field goal by AJ Vavrik ‘25 in the fourth quarter. Vavrik would make one more field goal in the fourth quarter, finishing the day going perfect on his kicks, going three-for-three on field goal attempts, and three-for-three on extra points. The Tigers made a push towards the end of the game. Once trailing 21-0, they scored a 10-yard touchdown and converted a two-point conversion with 1:20 left in the game to bring it within one possession, making the score 30-22. But, a failed onside kick attempt sealed their fate.
The Lions won 30-22 in a well fought game against a good Wheaton Warrenville South team. They will play at Hinsdale Central on Sept. 13 before coming home to play against Glenbard West in the annual Homecoming game on Sept. 21.
