LaGrange has been in a bougie food pandemic for the last couple of years. Restaurants open up with fancy, small-portioned meals and prices that truly shatter your happiness when you see the bill. It has been in desperate need of a restaurant that serves casual quality food for affordable prices. Well, lucky for us, the newest restaurant to open is Hangry Joe’s Chicken at 1 N. LaGrange Rd.
What started as a casual chicken restaurant in Virginia has now spread all across the country, serving their most popular foods, such as wings, bites, and waffle fries. They also have a variety of drinks, including milkshakes, lemonades, and even boba tea.
The first thing I noticed upon entering the restaurant was the impressive interior design. Hangry Joe’s themed cartoons cover every wall in the restaurant. It was so impressive and unique that I ended up admiring and looking at their art instead of the menu, making me take an extra minute while ordering.
I ended up ordering their chicken sandwich combo ($15.54), which comes with fries and a fountain drink. I also ordered their chicken salad and a chocolate shake ($7.74). The wait was about 10–15 minutes, and when it came, it was fresh and hot.
Starting with the sandwich, the chicken was tender and crisp. It was a good portion — enough to fill one person. On the sandwich came a scoop of coleslaw and two pickles. At first, I wasn’t sure about the combo and considered taking it off, but after the first bite, the meal proved itself as the flavors mixed together extremely well. The sandwich was seasoned perfectly and had a slight kick to it, but it wasn’t overly spicy. But it wasn’t just the sandwich that was well seasoned; their waffle fries were also seasoned to perfection and tasted even better with their homemade sauce, which was spicy but mayo-based.
I usually never go out of my way to order salads, but since I was doing this review and was feeling optimistic, I ordered their chicken salad ($15.54). The salad ended up being the only disappointing part of my visit. It was dry, and there were too many croutons mixed into the salad, which only added to the dryness and blandness of the salad. The only positive part was the chicken itself. But to be fair, don’t go to a renowned chicken establishment just to get a salad; that should be self-explanatory, so I wasn’t critical when deciding my overall rating.
Finally, I tried one of their chocolate shakes. It was pretty good, but nothing shocking about it. It was definitely thicker than I thought it would be, and eating it with a spoon was easier than using a straw. But overall, it was a decent shake and had minimal problems with it.
I definitely recommend that you at least try this restaurant out with your friends and family. It’s a decent establishment with excellent food, prices, and designs. I wouldn’t name it my favorite restaurant of all time, but it’s definitely worth keeping in LaGrange, and I look forward to visiting it again in the future.
