If you are looking for fantastic cuisine in the area, your next outing must be La Crepe Bistro in Homer Glen. I arrived on Sept. 29 and was extraordinarily pleased with all aspects of my dinner, from the food, drinks, customer service, and decor.
Upon entry, you will most likely see glamorous French-inspired decorations usually hinting at the closest holiday. Since Halloween is approaching, I saw spiders and other spooky decorations.
Before our waiter took our drink order, she made sure to ask if anybody had any food allergies, which we were grateful for because of my grandmother’s peanut allergy.
To start, I ordered the cappuccino ($5). Their menu contains a large variety of drinks like coffee, sparkling water, and a large wine selection, which my parents enjoyed. I have tried cappuccinos worldwide, from France to Jamaica, and I still find my favorite cappuccino at la Crepe Bistro.
For my appetizer, I had the Lobster Bisque ($12), described as a “French classic smooth and creamy soup,” and creamy it was. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish, which I never expected to love so much. Growing up, I always hated fish, and I never ate it. However, the first time we ate at La Crepe Bistro, my Mom demanded I try hers, and reluctantly, I agreed. Upon tasting the soup, I found, unlike my previous beliefs, the bisque was not a fishy-tasting soup. It was rather smooth, and I relished every bite.
For my entree, I decided to order the Duck a l’orange ($45). In previous years, I have ordered duck steak, but upon this visit, I had the urge to try something new. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The duck was presented with a sort of elegance I don’t see at many restaurants. My plate was sprinkled with fruit and parsley. I was surprised by the glaze and marination being sweeter than I initially expected, with a citrus aftertaste while the meat fell apart in my mouth. The duck itself was considerably large, and I could not even attempt to finish my plate.
My father and grandfather both ordered the steak and frites ($58), which they both thoroughly enjoyed. The steak was marinated and served with a black truffle sauce I found to complement the steak perfectly. But if you prefer something other than truffle sauce, you can have it with blue cheese or cognac sauce.
My grandmother got the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38). I was unenthused to try this dish because of my previously stated opinions on fish, but I was pleasantly surprised by the unique flavoring and mild spice. Served with champagne sauce and vegetables, the bass makes for a refreshing dish reminiscent of the ocean.
Finally, for dessert, I decided to try the wild berry sorbet ($9), which turned out to be a refreshing finish to my meal with its sweet and fruity taste that left me satisfied. Served in a frozen lemon, the sorbet was a smooth and healthy mix of berries that I found to be the perfect conclusion to my meal.
