On Aug. 26 the students of LT were sitting in their eighth period classrooms, most of them enduring their last period with no air conditioning. Then an announcement from Associate Principal Kevin Brown came on over the loudspeaker that the next day would be a half day due to the heat in the school.

The day would start normally at 7:45, but end at 11:30, made possible with 23 minute class periods. The six minute passing periods remained the same. It was a B day, meaning all students reported to their B-schedule study hall or lunchroom. The buses were available to take students home as needed.
