LT Board of Education hires new member
December 15, 2020
The LT Board of Education recently chose Micheal Thomas to serve out the recently resigned Barbara Rosinksy’s term. Rosinksy announced her resignation in August 2020, and Thomas is now finishing her term until the seat is open for election in April 2021.
Thomas graduated from LT in 1985 and is a 45-year resident in the LaGrange area, according to the LTHS website.
“[As] a class of ‘85 alum, I am honored to be able to serve as a board member and give back to the school that provided me with a great education,” Thomas said.
Thomas is currently involved with curriculum, facilities and negotiations for the LT Board, Board of Education President Thomas Cushing said.
“What stood out particularly about Mr. Thomas [was] his community involvement over the years and also his experience as a district 102 board member,” Cushing said, “Also [because he is] a minority candidate, we felt that added perspective”.
Every applicant for the open position was interviewed on Oct. 1. There were 17 applicants for the position; Thomas won the vote unanimously after all applicants were interviewed.
There have been open seats in the board in 2012, 2014 and 2015; however, there were only seven to nine applicants in those years.
The board strives to make LT a better learning environment for the students and always have their best interests in mind, Cushing said.
“My hope is to respectfully listen to diverse points of view and collaborate with board colleagues,” Thomas said.
