Fight in DTLG leaves one injured
November 28, 2016
The train station in downtown La Grange was filled with police Saturday evening after an argument escalated between two belligerent homeless men, resulting in one of the pair being transported to La Grange Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
The argument, which witnesses claim to have been occurring around 5:30 p.m., almost an hour before police left the scene at around 6:44 p.m., was laced with expletives, witnesses said. The individuals were perceived to have been intoxicated at the time, a fact that wasn’t confirmed by the police.
Sgt. Miles Odom, with the La Grange Police Department, said that individuals involved in altercations similar to the one that occurred Saturday evening usually know each and don’t press charges because “they know they will run into each other sometime in the future.”
Fire engines, ambulances and marked and unmarked police cars alike lined the platforms on both sides, with the majority of the officers clumped together on the outbound side of the platform.
Two hours after the fight took place, Metra’s spokesperson said he wasn’t aware of the altercation before receiving an inquiry from The Lion, but said that incidents like this are rare occurrences.
